Multi-City Team Building and Charity Initiative

One of Hulu's core values as an organization is giving back. With seven offices across the U.S., they decided to partner with a unique charity in each city to facilitate their summer giving back initiative called 'Hulupalooza.' Hulu tasked Gravel with finding a charity in each of the cities that not only focused on helping youth but also matched the personality of each of the offices.

The offices varied in size from a staff of 15 all the way up to over 500. Plus all seven events needed to take place on the same date! Gravel diligently researched each office to understand their individual culture as well as spatial, transportation and other local considerations. Some employees lived in major metropolitan areas, for example, without their own cars and therefore transportation would be taken into consideration. For the larger offices, the challenge was identifying a location and charity that could accommodate the entire group on the same day.

Gravel was able to identify charities in all cities to fit each office's unique specifications. Hulu teams bonded over giving back to youth in their communities and some were even motivated to continue working with charities beyond the events, creating lasting positive impact in each city.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do you coordinate simultaneous multi-city charity events that match local office cultures while maintaining consistent company mission alignment?

A: Multi-city charity event coordination requires comprehensive local research, cultural assessment, and charity partnership development that aligns with both corporate values and individual office personalities across different geographic markets. We conduct thorough analysis of each office location, team size, local transportation considerations, and cultural preferences to identify appropriate charity partners that resonate with local teams while supporting the overarching corporate giving mission. Our approach includes detailed logistics coordination across time zones, standardized communication protocols, and flexible programming that accommodates varying office sizes while ensuring each location can participate meaningfully in the unified corporate initiative.

Q: What criteria work best for selecting local charity partners for corporate team building events focused on youth impact and employee engagement?

A: Effective charity partner selection for corporate team building requires evaluation of organizational capacity, mission alignment, volunteer program structure, and local community impact to ensure meaningful experiences that engage employees while creating genuine positive outcomes. We assess charities for their ability to accommodate corporate group sizes, provide hands-on volunteer opportunities that build team connections, demonstrate measurable community impact, and align with corporate values and employee interests. Our selection process includes site visits, reference checks, and capacity assessments that ensure chosen partners can deliver authentic volunteer experiences that strengthen both community relationships and internal team dynamics.

Q: How do you manage complex logistics for same-day multi-city corporate events with varying office sizes and local considerations?

A: Same-day multi-city event coordination requires sophisticated project management that accounts for time zone differences, varying office sizes, local transportation options, and venue capacity limitations while ensuring consistent execution quality across all locations. We develop comprehensive coordination systems that include local venue scouting, transportation planning for offices without parking availability, capacity management for large groups, and real-time communication protocols that ensure simultaneous execution. Our approach includes detailed contingency planning, local vendor relationships in each market, and centralized coordination that maintains event consistency while accommodating unique local requirements and ensuring successful participation across all office locations.
